"... you won't do better than the Trio Parnassus. Their readings strike me as fresher, more observant and more imaginative than any of other traditional performances. Their judgement of tempo is virtually ideal; and with their athletic, springing rhythms, their crisp articulation and their avoidance of excessive vibrato. They´re also beautifully recorded and balanced, with a nice sense of space around the players." (BBC Radio3: building a library)
The compositions by Mozart on this CD occupy key positions along the way from the piano piece with insignificant upper and bass voices to the independent genre of the piano trio. On this re-release of the Mozart trios, the first-class Trio Parnassus presents a recording that in its time was selected as a "first choice" and won the first prize in the BBC's comparison of interpretations.
The violinist Wolfgang Schröder, the cellist Michael Groß, and the pianist Chia Chou are the members of this extraordinary piano trio. During recent years the Trio Parnassus has established itself as a guarantee of first-class interpretations in the piano trio literature. All of the trio's many CDs have met with distinctions from the critics and with a highly favourable response from listening audiences. Its world-premiere CDs featuring the trios of Joseph Rheinberger and Edouard Lalo set standards for subsequent performances, and the BBC praised its complete recording of Mozart's piano trios as the definitive interpretation on modern instruments.
The trio concertizes throughout Europe and in the United States, where it performed in the legendary Great Performers Series at New York's Lincoln Center in October 1996. Its continuous integration of new and unknown pieces into its programs has made it a welcome guest on broadcasts of the German radio networks. It has revived many interesting masterpieces through such productions.
The trio's complete recording of the piano trios of Johannes Brahms was released in the spring of 1996. The recording includes not only the three famous piano trios but also the authorized transcription of the two string sextets for trio - this once again reflecting the commitment of the trio's members to new discoveries in their field of chamber music.
