A box with 12 CDs brings together the complete recordings for RCA of the great French director GEORGES PRÊTRE, who died in January 2017 at the age of 92 years. This complete compilation honors his legacy, both in opera and concert repertoires. The box also contains a diverse selection of concert recordings from the late 1960s, including three works by Sibelius with the Philharmonia (then known as New Philharmonia), Harold in Italy by Berlioz with the LSO and the Symphonie Fantastique with the Symphony of Boston, as well as the Piano Concerto No. 3 of Rachmaninoff with the Chicago Symphony and the soloist Alexis Weissenberg. Last but not the least of your concert recordings, PRETRE accompanies legendary mezzo-soprano Shirley Verrett.

"This was one of the first recordings to offer the score complete; none of the "traditional" cuts are made. The three principals were on the young side - and in excellent voice - in 1967. Caballé's singing can be heartbreakingly beautiful (listen to "Alfredo, Alfredo" at the start of the second act finale), and there are very distinguished moments such as the palpable fright in her voice when she looks in her mirror and sees how pale she is in the first scene."
