Orginally released 1998, 'Big Calm' is an irresistable album of sophisticated and enchanting music...
Orginally released in April 1998 and certified Platinum status in NZ, 'Big Calm' features the songs 'Shoulder Holster', 'Blindfold' and 'Part of the Process'.
Morcheeba, who are Skye Edwards and brothers Paul and Ross Godfrey - formed in 1995 and reached worldwide fame with this, their seminal sophomore platinum album 'Big Calm'.
"Ever since Massive Attack and Tricky moved the goalposts, there has been a slew of British bands armed with sequencers and samplers trying to emulate the sound, but most have just been pale imitations. Not so Morcheeba.
One listen to 'Big Calm' and you'll be utterly seduced by their dark and bruised pop. As well as the trademark scratching and funky basslines, Morcheeba employ guitar, string sections, B3 Hammond and the totally seductive vocals of Skye Edwards. Incorporating pop, lounge, film soundtracks, reggae and jazz into their original electronica trip-hop stylings, they produce sophisticated and enchanting music.
Morcheeba's sound can be twisted and claustrophobic at times, but it is also utterly compelling. Their debut album 'Who Can You Trust?' was undoubtedly one of the major finds of '96. 'Big Calm' took their ideas and songs even further ahead and the results were an irresistable album of classic proportions"
