Blade Runner (The Original Motion Picture Soundtrack)

"Not officially released in this form until 1994, the 'Blade Runner' soundtrack is available to us as a special import out of America. It features music from Ridley Scott's legendary sci-fi film of the same name, which debuted in theatres in1982 and remains a memorable cult classic. 'Blade Runner' is quite easily one of the most atmospheric and best soundtracks ever produced - from the highly influential Greek composer and multi-instrumentalist, Vangelis!!!

For this powerful, yet very melodic musical accompaniment, Vangelis created a series of evocative soundscapes on synthesizer that are as far reaching and futuristic today as ever they were. He structures these mainly instrumental works over inspirational, yet sparse rhythmic beats in a perfect expression of the on-screen action from the film. Add to this the occasional voiceover from Deckard (Harrison Ford) plus other characters, and you have an intensely brooding suite of aural delights that works exceptionally well, even without the cinematic images. Featured contributors on this CD include Mary Hopkin, Don Percival, Demis Roussos, and Dick Morrisey. Their input is notable and complements the composer's score beautifully.

To this day, Vangelis remains a clearly distinctive leader in his field; comparable to the likes of Philip Glass & Jean Michel Jarre, and this is perhaps the most outstanding album he has produced. However, he has also made a number of excellent collaborative efforts with singer Jon Anderson, plus several other brilliant and highly successful soundtracks including '1492: Conquest of Paradise' & 'Chariots of Fire'.
