Talented Swedish songstress, Lisa Ekdahl offers enchanting, smooth jazz standards and rhythmic swing numbers on this elegant, sexy release from 1999.
"A superstar in her native country, Sweden, Lisa Ekdahl has released several "pop" albums in her own language, and three "jazz" style recordings in English. She studied music in college and at age 18 Lisa began singing live with the Peter Nordahl jazz trio in Stockholm. Her self-titled debut album was an instant success, going on to sell over half a million copies. The LP yielded the smash hit single "Vem Vet" and prompted Lisa to win three Swedish Grammy Awards in 1994.
After two more releases she moved away from the pop market, returning to her acoustic jazz roots with 'When Did You Leave Heaven', her first English recording. The album received considerable attention, but it was on the following 'Back to Earth' that Lisa truly came of age with her singing. On this album, issued in 1999, Ekdahl was again beautifully accompanied by pianist Peter Nordahl, drummer Ronnie Gardiner and bassist Patrick Boman. While retaining some of her cutesie-pie voice, her relaxed charm and unique style proved to be a winner on this collection of enchanting, smooth jazz standards. She offers soothing ballads ("What Is this Thing Called Love," "Laziest Girl in Town," "Now or Never") along with rhythmic swing numbers ("Down with Love," "I Get a Kick Out of You.") in an elegant, sexy way.
In 2000 Lisa released a wonderful bossa nova album, 'Lisa Ekdahl Sings Salvadore Poe' which went gold in France. Two years later a compilation of her English-language jazz productions was made available in some countries on 'Heaven, Earth and Beyond'. However, it is 'Back to Earth' that remains the most essential of her recordings, having a lovely musical flow and endearing quality."
