CAFE CUBA takes some of the finest original Mambo sounds of 1940's/1950's; the sound of real Cuban music arriving on the streets of New York.

Over the last few years, owing to the success of records such as Ry Cooder's BUENA VISTA SOCIAL CLUB and THE CUBAN ALLSTARS, the demand for authentic Cuban music has risen dramatically with an increasingly diverse audience.

The 16 tracks range from the early Latin-Jazz classics including a selection from Machito's 1949 Mercury recordings, through to the Fifties golden age with Chico O'Farrill, and in the Sixties with salsa pioneers such as Willie Bobo, Eddie Palmieri and Cal Tjader.

Latin music and Afro-Cuban music in particular, has a rich history of improvisation which makes for highly accessible listening.
