Recorded in December 1975, 'Bright Size Life' is the wonderful debut recording from celebrated guitarist, Pat Metheny - accompanied by brilliant bassist, Jaco Pastorius and skilful drummer, Bob Moses.
"Recorded in December 1975 and released in '76, the brilliant 'Bright Size Life' is the debut studio solo recording from celebrated guitarist, Pat Metheny. With his unique, immediately recognisable style, this prolific musician has released around 50 albums bearing his name - and many of those are worthy of the "classic" tag. For a prime example of Metheny's subtle style and fluid playing, this CD is a great place to start.
'Bright Size Life' features only two other musicians - skilful drummer Bob Moses is refined and dynamic in his approach, while the late great Jaco Pastorius on electric bass acts as Metheny's musical foil. Jaco adds perfect contrast, beautifully bending and shaping the backbone of the sound, yet always allowing plenty of space for the guitarist to shine above it all.
The album is mostly original material, all exquisite, with Ornette Coleman's "Round Trip / Broadway Blues" thrown in for good measure, played as a fun loose jam by the trio. The interplay on 'Bright Size Life' is a joy to behold and these sessions set the benchmark for Pat Metheny's impressive body of work that followed."
