Founded in 1925, the Danish National Radio Symphony Orchestra is regarded as Denmark's leading symphony orchestra. From its home in Copenhagen it undertakes extensive concert, recording and touring activities. The orchestra has performed under many of this century's greatest conductors including Bruno Walter, Eugene Ormandy, Leopold Stokowski, Raphael Kubelik, Daniel Barenboim and Herbert Blomstedt, who was Chief Conductor from 1967-77. Other regular conductors include Yuri Temirkanov, Gennady Rozhdestvensky and Giuseppe Sinopoli. Leif Segerstam was Chief Conductor from 1988-95, a post now held by the German conductor Ulf Schirmer, and Michael Schønwandt is Principal Guest Conductor. The Orchestra undertakes regular tours in Europe and abroad.
