All of the music on this CD was written before the composer was twenty-one, yet it is wholly characteristic and by no means immature. The disc includes both Elegiac Trios (No 2 dedicated to Tchaikovsky), Two Pieces for cello and piano, Op 2 and Two Pieces for violin and piano, Op 6. This is the first in a series of Russian piano trios to be recorded for Hyperion by The Moscow Rachmaninov Trio.
