Solti's account of Tannhäuser was the first Wagner opera he recorded after completing his version of the Ring Cycle. It is a landmark recording as it presents the Paris version of the opera for the first time on record (rather than the more commonly heard Dresden version). Soloists include René Kollo in the title role, Helga Dernesch as Elisabeth and Christa Ludwig as Venus. These performances are matched with magnificant choral singing and orchestral playing.

Sir Georg Solti, who would have been 90 years old this year, remains particularly associated with the operas of Richard Wagner.

These legendary recordings were made over the entire course of Solti's career with Decca (almost 50 years!) and boast some of the finest Wagnerian performances ever committed to disc.

Each opera is packaged in a slipcase with full libretto and translations.

"… at the early age of 35, it was clear that he was already one of the outstanding conductors of his time" (the great Wagnerian bass-baritone Hans Hotter on Sir Georg Solti)

"One of the most satisfying of Georg Solti's Wagner recordings. Christa Ludwig is a seductive Venus in this, the Paris version, Helga Dernesch a sweet-toned Elisabeth, though René Kollo isn't quite the singer we expect from Tannhäuser."
