Pete Yorn is a young singer / songwriter with an uncanny ear for melody, a knack for unforgettable hooks, and a dusky vocal style. His diverse debut is steeped in thick, lush pop-rock melodies and his talents extend to playing most of the instruments, writing all the songs and co-producing the album.
His influences range from Morrissey and Joy Division to Sonic Youth and REM and his music has been described as having a 90s alt-rock feel, and vocally compared to early REM and Dinosaur Jr's J. Mascis.
Pete has already had considerable exposure, with two of the tracks from the album - "Strange Condition" and "Just Another", being included in the Jim Carrey movie, "Me, Myself and Irene". He was also asked to compose the film's score.
"Strange Condition" was recorded with Brad Wood (Smashing Pumpkins, Liz Phair), while "Just Another" was recorded in the basement of Pete's home with the young tunesmith playing all the drums, bass and guitars and singing all the vocals on the track.
"Just Another" also appeared on the film's soundtrack - as well as being featured on the TV series, "Felicity" and the "Songs From Dawson's Creek 2" album.
In an industry torn between artistic credibility and commercial viability, Pete Yorn's Columbia Records debut, "musicforthemorningafter", is that rare record that satisfies the demands of both criteria.
Chosen by US Rolling Stone as 'One of the Ten To Watch in 2001' the buzz for Pete Yorn continues to grow with amazing press features and album reviews:
"melodies to cure a bad attitude"
- Rolling Stone
"it's impossible to pigeonhole Yorn's music or identify exactly who or what has informed it. This inspired quirkiness makes him, if not the future of rock'n'roll, at least a promising new disciple"
- USA Today.
