Beautiful renditions of male songs, sung with female perspective by Tori. The interpretations of these songs combine her piano playing with dark and sometimes brooding versions of songs by the likes of 10CC, Lloyd Cole and the Boomtown Rats.
"This album has four different covers with Tori as different personas...
For her new CD in 2001 Tori Amos has chosen to so an album of cover songs. Male solo artists or groups originally sang all the tracks.
Her interpretations of these songs combine her piano playing with dark and sometimes brooding versions of songs by the likes of 10CC, Lloyd Cole and the Boomtown Rats.
The title track 'Strange Little Girl' was originally releases by UK group, The Stranglers. Things like Neil Young's 'Heart of Gold', and The Beatles' 'Happiness is a Warm Gun' are given interesting reworking. Other standout tracks include 'I Don't Like Mondays' and Depeche mode's 'Enjoy the Silence'. This is her sixth album to date, and certainly one that has a diverse range of songs.
Over the last couple of year's artists such as Bryan Ferry, Joni Mitchell, and George Michael have all releases albums of cover songs. This offering by Tori Amos is a diverse collection of cuts that she herself has enjoyed over the years.
This album mixes emotion, feeling, and a sometimes-haunting after-effect that is definitely worth checking out. Have a listen - you won't be disappointed."
