The Greatest Hits

Dr Hook were one of the distinctive and popular bands of the late 70's and early 80's, with 14 hit singles in New Zealand including such memorable classics as 'When You're In Love With A Beautiful Woman', 'Better Love Next Time', 'Sexy Eyes', 'Sylvia's Mother' and 'A Little Bit More'.

Their first major hit single in NZ was 'Sylvia's Mother'. It reached # 1 & stayed there for 5 weeks.

In 1973 the band had another Top 10 hit when 'The Cover Of The Rolling Stone' climbed to number 3, but within 12 months were facing bankruptcy and had been dropped by their record company. Soon afterwards they decided to abbreviate their name to Dr Hook and then, in 1975, signed a new recording deal with Capital Records.

In 1976 Dr Hook's revival of Sam Cooke's 'Only 16' climbed to number 9. In the United States it sold more than a million copies. They followed it with 'A Little Bit More' which reached number 13 in NZ, and number 11 in the U.S.

Other hits rapidly followed … 'Walk Right In' reached number 11 in June 1977, and they followed that with 'Sharing The Night Together'. In November 1979 Dr Hook triumphantly topped the British pop charts with 'When You're In Love With A Beautiful Woman', and it reached number 2 here in NZ.

Other major New Zealand hits include 'Sexy Eyes' (# 1), 'Better Love Next Time' (# 7), 'Years From Now' (# 7), 'Sharing The Night Together' (# 12), 'Girls can Get It (# 5), 'Baby Makes Her Blue Jeans Talk (# 4).

The band's music lives on and this new Greatest Hits Collection brings together the cream of their recordings.It's a great reminder of their own special brand of good-time folk/rock music.
