Thwaites is known as a leading authority on Grainger's music
Penelope Thwaites is known worldwide as a leading authority on Grainger's music and was awarded the International Percy Grainger Society's Medallion in recognition of her work. She was appointed a Member of the Order of Australia (AM) in the 2001 Queen's Birthday Honours List, in recognition of her work for Australian composers, including Grainger.
This is the first time Grainger's piano works have been recorded and annotated in the chronological order of their basic musical material, thus giving a unique perspective on the works themselves and where they fit into Grainger's entire composing career.
Early works as well as recently discovered ones have been recorded from manuscripts newly revised by Penelope Thwaites for these recordings, reckoning to present the notes as Grainger actually wrote them.
The recordings of Horkstow Grange and The Tents of the Happy Tribes are premieres of these versions.
