"This new BIS release can be heartily recommended to anyone who wants Enescu's three most important violin works on one disc. Sheer delight."
***** Five Stars BBC Music Magazine (July 2002)

George Enescu (1881-1955) was one of the leading violinists of his day as well as being an important composer and teacher. Born in Romania he studied composition both in Vienna and in Paris as well as teaching the young Yehudi Menuhin. As a composer he is best remembered for his works based on Romanian folk tunes - or if not actual tunes then other aspects of his native folk music. Mihaela Martin is, like Enescu, a Romanian violin virtuoso who has performed all over the world and who also teaches her instrument (at the Musikhochschule in Cologne). In this disc of duos for violin and piano she is joined by Roland Pöntinen who needs no introduction here. He is, quite simply, a peerless chamber musician. Spirited music - much less well known than it deserves - most beautifully and idiomatically performed.
