Haydn's Symphony No.104 comes already remarkably close to Beethoven's expansive and revolutionary use of the Classical symphonic genre and in that respect a combination with the latter's Seventh Symphony is an interesting one.

There are only a few recordings of Herbert von Karajan in the Decca catalogue and they're practically all of a legendary status.

This combination of the Vienna Philharmonic and Karajan resulted in an overwhelming sound experience and an energetic performance of both well-known masterpieces of the Classical era.

Haydn's Symphony No.104 comes already remarkably close to Beethoven's expansive and revolutionary use of the Classical symphonic genre and in that respect a combination with the latter's Seventh Symphony is an interesting one. To prove how closely the two works relate, Karajan handles Haydn's last symphony with an equal grandeur.
