"Here is a singer with both a rich, colourful and 'alive'-sounding voice and the musical intelligence to use that gift." Recording of the Month - Gramophone Magazine (September 2006)
"(This is) the first joint disc from Magdalena Kožená with her partner (in the romantic sense) Simon Rattle. However, the true reason to pay it so much attention is Kožená's breathtaking artistry. Here is a singer with both a rich, colourful and 'alive'-sounding voice and the musical intelligence to use that gift. Many of us knew that already, of course, but to these ears motherhood or maturity (or both) have somewhat changed her sound. It is fuller now, and she is, if anything, even more confident and at ease with her talent than previously. Mozart has never really been Rattle's home turf but he rises to the occasion with springy accompaniments. And Jos van Immerseel makes it two CD picks in a row with his contribution from the fortepiano."
Recording of the Month - Gramophone Magazine (September 2006)
Magdalena Kožená's first all-Mozart album - and her first album in collaboration with her partner Sir Simon Rattle - stands out as one of the highlights of the Mozart Forever 2006 celebration.
The album is a collection of some of Mozart's finest arias for female voice, mostly for mezzo-soprano but - typical of her ambition and grace - Magdalena also taps her soprano potential.
Magdalena is a natural Mozart singer, garnering rave reviews and enchanting audiences wherever she performs Mozart on stage. Sir Simon Rattle is the ideal conductor for this project, delicately wrapping Magdalena's voice in the most vivid and sensitive orchestral sound imaginable.
