This CD is devoted to Parry, Somervell, and Stanford, three of the greatest songwriters of the Late-Victorian Renaissance. Parry is considered to be a very fine composer indeed, and this collection includes some of the best of his songs. The Stanford songs are, perhaps, better known, and Somervell's setting of the Shropshire Lad cycle is more than just a minor masterpiece. A rare treat!
PARRY - My heart is like a singing bird, From a City Window, The Maiden, Armida's Garden, Goodnight, etc. A. SOMERVELL-A Shropshire Lad,Young love lies sleeping, Come to me in my dreams, etc.
STANFORD - An Irish Idyll, The Fair, To the Soul, The Calico Dress.
