The most humorous, diverse, beautiful dance / chill album of 2002 - this music is essential and delicious!
Lemon Jelly are Fred Deakin (expert crate-digger and vibes supreme) and Nick Franglen (laser-brained sound scientist). They make dance music you don't dance to. Make it look and feel not slick and anonymous, but curvy and sublime. They take the conventions of electronica - beats, loops and samples - and create something you don't need a dance floor to justify.
With mysterious bells on, (they've never been photographed), Lemon Jelly do everything themselves, except buy their own albums. They left that to the more than 90,000 punters who purchased 'KY', their debut album (a compile of their 3 impossible to find 10"s).
Throughout 2002, Lemon Jelly worked on their first "proper" album, 'Lost Horizons'. It saw the light of day towards the end of that year, and featured the cool single, "Spacewalk", as well as 7 other wondrous songs of cosmic goodness!
They've since gone on to release the equally groovy, ''64 - '95', which is also highly recommended listening... although not quite as amorphous as the sheer brilliance that is 'Lost Horizons'.
"Basically, Lemon Jelly are seriously amazing, and 'Lost Horizons' is totally recommended to anyone who ever fancied the likes of The Orb, Leftfield, Orbital, plus other classic groundbreaking electronica of that ilk... It's a stone-cold classic!!!"
-MARTY
"Fred is a life-long vinyl collector and owns a very successful U.K. graphic design company, while Nick was landscaper-to-the-stars, before he became a very accomplished programmer, working with everyone from Bjork to Primal Scream. Together, they are Lemon Jelly, the duo responsible for 'Lost Horizons' - the most humorous and diverse dance / chill album of 2002. Cruisy beats mix with Apollo moon walks, guitars with nursery rhymes, and dance beats with sample after joyous sample - all immaculately groomed into exactly one hour of creativity. So, dig in and have a taste of Lemon Jelly… you'll definitely be back for seconds!"
-ROGER MARBECK
"Lemon Jelly make the loveliest sounds. 'Lost Horizons' is a big, bold, warm thing. Dive in and lose yourself. Join the conceptual dots, or groove to the tunes. As the astronaut vocalist says on "Spacewalk", the album's first single: "Just Beautiful". (****)"
