Editor's Choice - Gramophone Magazine (June 2003)

"Cecil Armstrong Gibbs (1889-1960) was the son of the founder of the firm that brought us Gibbs toothpaste - so being born with a silver spoon (toothbrush?) in his mouth, he could concentrate on music. After Cambridge, he returned to his old prep school to teach but was encouraged to take up composition full-time when a score he wrote for a school play was conducted by a young Adrian Boult. He composed some 162 songs throughout his career, 38 to poems by Walter de la Mare."
- Editor's Choice - Gramophone Magazine (June 2003)

Born into the well-known 'Gibbs toothpaste' family, Armstrong Gibbs (1889-1960) is a member of that wide category of English composers who, without pretensions to 'significance' or greatness, left much attractive and worthwhile music without which we would be much the poorer. This collection of 36 songs, includes the much-loved Silver and Five Eyes.
