'Matthias Bamert directs what seems a wholly convinced, warmly majestic performance.'
BBC Music Magazine
This premiere recording of Verhulst's Mass is the seventh release in Chandos' survey of neglected Dutch music which has so far garnered high praise.
Verhulst's highly romantic music is reminiscent of that of Schumann and Mendelssohn, with whom he was well acquainted.
The distinguished soloists are supported by the highly respected Residentie Orchestra, conducted by Matthias Bamert.
REVIEWS
Matthias Bamert and the Residentie Orchestra The Hague have received high praise for their series of music by Dutch composers:
'Matthias Bamert has infused such joy and commitment into these performances that they are well-nigh self-recommending, and the Hague environs suffuse the music-making with a warm glow that quite complements the string textures. The orchestra plays with a fervour and spontaneity that really makes this music come alive.'
