"It is hard to recognize legends while they are still among us, but rest assured Mr. Levine will be one."
The New York Times, 29 April 1996
James Levine celebrated his 60th birtday on June 23, 2003. This 4-CD capbox is a special release to mark that occasion.
Each of the CDs contains recordings with one of the four major orchestras he has worked with in the course of his career.
Levine himself has chosen the repertoire of this set.
Most of the recordings included in this set are currently not available in our catalogue.
"The Tristan Prelude is tenderly, warmly felt, although the underlying passion is in no doubt and the Liebestod follows on sensuously. Levine effectively allows the tension to drop back a little before working up to his passionate climax."
