Bringing together the vast and varied sounds, Nava Thomas has delivered a stunning album that leaps past the benchmarks currently set by New Zealand's electronica community
LOOP Recordings are proud to present the new album from Christchuch's own Nava Thomas, aka Confucius.
Nava's first release in 99 - a self-titled 6 track EP - featured 2 tracks, 'Maceo' and 'Shanti Riddim' that were extensively play-listed throughout the bnet radio stations. His second album, 'In The Seventh House', released in 2000 contained an eclectic mix of dub, jungle, electro and funk. Confucius quickly grabbed the attention of LOOP who included them on their famed LOOP Select and Gathering compilations. 2002 saw the release of the deep & dubby 'To The Control Tower' from the acclaimed Dubwizemeetsconfucius project. Not content with that, over the last few years Nava has also collaborated with his Junglist brother Mysterious D, created beats for Sheelahroc and started the live funk band P-bass Expressway with Ariel White.
Fast forward to 2003, and Confucius' latest album 'newsoundlandscapes' showcases his broad-ranging musical vision. Bringing together the vast and varied sounds of Dub, Drum & Bass, Downtempo and Hip-hop Nava has delivered a stunning album that leaps past the benchmarks currently set by New Zealand's electronica community. Vocal contributions come courtesy of the very talented Sheelahroc, (featuring Ladi6 - part of live R&B/Soul band Verse 2 and Scribe collaborator - and Vudu Child), Charmed 1 and Michela C who all add their distinctive lyrical flow to the rich Confucius flavour. With the combination of guests & Confucius' own production skills 'Newsoundlandscapes' is deeply organic album that takes you on an inspired & eclectic musical journey. Past the dark heart of drum & bass, through deep dub territory to the warm jazzy shores of breakbeat. There's something here for everyone: something for the heart, the headz & the dancefloor. Take your own trip through 'Newsoundlandscapes'. You won't be disappointed!
