Puccini did not complete his great oriental opera before his death in 1924. Italian composer Luciano Berio (1925-2003) was commissioned to write a new completion of the work. This is the first recording of the final, revised version - the result of discussions between Berio and Riccardo Chailly following the first public performances in 2002.
