"All in all, though, this Perlman-Barenboim set is consistent interpretatively and a major achievement on its own terms, while the recordings in the different locations and over a period of seven years are well enough matched. But to sum up, I do prefer Zukerman and Neikrug in this music; their performances are that much more natural-sounding, less sharply projected as concert music but more intimate. Clearly some sonatas such as K306 are concert music and therefore it's a case of swings and roundabouts, but movements such as the Andante of K454 and the variation-form finale of K481 seem larger than life when Perlman and Barenboim are heard in one's living room."
