The only "complete Duruflé organ music" with a filler, the ASV debut of David M. Patrick is a notable addition to the organ catalogue. Painfully self-critical, Duruflé's output is all-too-slender, so that the entire opus for his own instrument can be presented on a single CD. Yet these six works contain music of such lyricism and power that their appeal goes far beyond the organ specialist. The highly appropriate bonus is Duruflé's transcriptions of Trois Improvisations by his teacher, Vierne. Patrick produces glorious sounds from the superb Harrison organ of Coventry Cathedral, a great instrument built very much in the French style.
