Alexander Glazunov's career as a major Russian composer straddled the Imperial and Soviet eras. "No one has ever conducted Glazunov's music with more color and verve," was the The New Yorker's verdict on José Serebrier and this collection of his nine symphonies, five concertos and other orchestral works. Serebrier describes it as "a wealth of wonderful late-Romantic music," speaking of "deep emotions that are contained and controlled, sophisticated and subtle," and of "a perfect compositional technique… obvious in every bar of music."

"Clear and slightly reverberant recording maximises the textures and appeal of these works making the disc worthy of consideration as a benchmark recording" (MusicWeb on Symphony 5 & Seasons)

"…the Raymonda Suite shows the composer at his finest… full of melodic charm and felicitous scoring… the orchestral playing here is most sympathetic…" (Penguin guide on Raymonda)

"…Serebrier instantly conveys his love for this reassuringly warm brand of symphonism, as he conjures the Fourth Symphony's introduction from a spell of languorous daydreams. He then has the RSNO with him all the way in relishing the ebb and flow of tempo in Glazunov's subtly constructed first movement, and the catchy Scherzo receives an appropriately rollicking performance." (Gramophone on Symphonies 4 & 7)
