"The soloists sing very expressively and accurately their respective parts. They include New Zealander Teddy Tahu-Rhodes, who is a very confident and stirring bass. Sara MacLiver has a pure soprano voice and sings very movingly. The alto doesn't have much solo work in the Messiah but Alexandra Sherman's voice is rich and resonant. This performance includes a counter-tenor, Christopher Field, and his voice adds considerably to the variety of tone colour, especially in But Who May Abide. Paul McMahon, the tenor, has a light voice and sings very accurately and with feeling. Vocal embellishments in baroque style by the soloists are not overdone, but add a great deal of interest to those who know the work well."

Throughout each year, and especially at Christmas time, thousands of people enjoy the experience of hearing Handel's most famous work, Messiah. It not only tells the story of Jesus Christ, but it also considers the whole of human experience - hope and fulfilment, suffering and death, resurrection and redemption - which has resonances with us all.
Many of the arias and choruses (especially the 'Hallelujah' chorus) are some of the most well-known and beloved pieces of classical music.
Now ABC Classics releases Australia's first complete recording of Handel's Messiah. Not only that, but when this recording was made, in St Patricks Chapel, Manly in Sydney, it was also visually recorded. Sumptuous footage of soloists, choir, orchestra and conductor in this perfect environment make for a unique product
Features some of ABC Classics most renowned soloists (including Sara Macliver and Teddy Tahu Rhodes), the choir Cantillation, and the new Baroque ensemble, Orchestra of the Antipodes (on period instruments) conducted by Antony Walker.
