An evocative and heart-felt collection of twelve intimate and atmospheric songs - a handcrafted jewel of an album from half Icelandic, half Italian singer / songwriter Emiliana Torrini
Half Icelandic, half Italian singer / songwriter, Emiliana Torrini released her debut album, the acclaimed 'Love In The Time Of Science', in 1999. At the time it was described as "a gorgeous, electronic trip-poppin' vision of endless summer and moonlit nights out".
27-year-old Emiliana has been busy since the release of said debut all those years ago. She moved to Brighton, joined the cast of 'The Lord of the Rings - The Two Towers' to perform the enchanting "Gollum Song", wrote and toured with Thievery Corporation and also wrote a Number One Hit for Kylie Minogue in the shape of the huge-selling pop smash "Slow". This was written and produced by Emiliana alongside Brixton-based producer Mr. Dan, midway through the sessions that became this, Emiliana's second album.
'Fisherman's Woman' is an evocative and heart-felt collection of twelve intimate and atmospheric songs - a handcrafted jewel of an album. There's a new introspection from Emiliana on 'Fisherman's Woman', closer to Nick Drake or Jolie Holland than Portishead or Goldfrapp.
Opening gambit "Nothing Brings Me Down" gradually builds from sparse beginnings (featuring Dan's acoustic guitar with light touches of piano) to a textured, gentle circle. Album highlight and first single / video, "Sunny Road" sounds as if it could have leaped out of a dusty, lost Leonard Cohen session, while "Lifesaver" floats along a mysterious, fairy-tale accordion melody, accompanied by the ambient creak of boats on water.
