Leading the revival of Romantic period-performance style, The Eroica Quartet presents the final installment of its highly acclaimed Mendelssohn cycle.
"Performances of exhilarating freshness and verve" - The Daily Telegraph, UK (review of Volume 2)
The Eroica Quartet has astonished audiences with its radical interpretations of some of the best-known music of the 19th century. The Quartet was formed in 1993 by four of Britain's leading period instrumentalists committed to performing the music of the Romantic era and to rediscovering the style of its performance. They believe passionately in the freedom of expressive possibilities brought about by thorough immersion in the performance style of the composer's day. Rather than simply relying upon the evidence found in the instruction books of the period, the players have gained valuable insight from early performing editions. The Quartet has a strong and inquiring relationship with Dr. Clive Brown, an authority on 19th-century performance practice. In particular, they have worked together on the expressive implications of bowings and fingerings found in mid-19th-century editions.
The Eroica Quartet records exclusively for harmonia mundi usa.
