Blazing drama and thrilling singing from an all-star cast as Attila returns to the catalogue.
Definitive Philips recordings of early Verdi operas return to the catalogue in the CLASSIC OPERA series - at special price with full libretto
Blazing drama and thrilling singing from an all-star cast as Attila returns to the catalogue.
Bass-baritone Ruggero Raimondi leads a cast which includes the great Verdi tenor Carlo Bergonzi as Attila's slave, and baritone Sherill Milnes as the Roman general, as well as the Dutch soprano Cristina Deutekom as the fiery Odabella.
In Attila Verdi presents the story of the infamous King of the Huns as he leads their fight with the Romans. Just under the surface, however, is the politics of 19th century Italy. It is not surprising that Verdi wrote some of his most dramtatic music for this opera which was a huge success at its premiere in Venice in 1846.
