This remarkable artist has a uniquely captivating voice which is immensely compelling. Hinson explores heartfelt country, blues and poetry in that nicotine aged voic - essential and spine-tingling.
'The Baby and The Satellite' is the first new material from Micah P. Hinson since his acclaimed debut ''And The Gospel Of Progress'. However, the origin of these recordings stems back to 2000 when they made up a sketchy mini-album of heartfelt alt country gems. Then his publicized "lost period" began and those recordings were forgotten.
Since the overwhelming popularity of his debut album, Micah has revisited these old recordings and reworked them with the aid of friends Brandon and John Mark from The Earlies, who also helped him with 'And The Gospel'.
The album begins with the distant samples of flute and children's vocals before a basic drum beat and acoustic guitars kick in, overlaid by Micah's unique and old-before-his-time vocals. In similar circumstance to the following tracks, it's Micah's voice which becomes the centre point of the album, as anyone who saw him play live in NZ will attest to.
There is also the added bonus of the original 30min recordings, which will delight dedicated fans but shows the raw emotions and lo-fi environment it was recorded in. Which may in itself remind us of those live shows just weeks ago.
'The Baby and The Satellite' sees Micah P. Hinson exploring heartfelt country, blues and poetry in that nicotine aged voice only Micah seems capable of successfully pulling off. Essential and spine-tingling.
