"Truly outstanding Mozart playing"
(Gramophone)
Maria João Pires and Claudio Abbado here join together to give accounts of three Mozart piano concertos, two written for his pupil Barbara Ployer and one containing the famous slow movement featured in the popular 1967 Swedish film Elvira Madigan. Pires's performance of that movement was described in Gramophone as "not at all romanticized, but admirably poised", and the version of the G major Concerto singled out for "truly outstanding Mozart playing", and "shapely phrasing and lovely sonorities".
