Primrose made transcriptions for his own use to fill some vacancies (charmeurs he called them) in the viola repertoire of his day, and to display his prodigious technique. Unlike string colleagues he greatly admired, Fritz Kreisler and Jascha Heifetz, Primrose did not play the piano well.
