Brubeck sat down at the piano and spontaneously recorded - each in one take - eight reflective and gracefully melodic standards from the 1930s and 1940s, as well as four poignant originals, which he imprints with his trademark riffs and shifting time signatures. Heard for the first time anywhere is "Newport Waltz," written in 1991 following his performance at the Newport Jazz Festival. This album is destined to become a jazz classic.
