Since his debut as guest artist with the Seattle Symphony at age 13, Rolf Smedvig has displayed the brilliant technique and supreme musical artistry to become one of the world's top brass players.
Principal trumpet with leading orchestras, featured soloist around the world, and founding member of the Empire Brass Quintet, Smedvig emerged as a recorded solo artist with this stunning collection of virtuoso concerti.
Performed with the Scottish Chamber Orchestra and conducted by Jahja Ling, the five concertos on this recording span more than a century. Featured are fresh new interpretations of the two most popular trumpet concertos, those by Haydn and Hummel, both in E-flat. Seldom-recorded concertos of Tartini, Torelli and Bellini are also included on this recording.
Beautifully captured by superb Telarc engineering, Trumpet Concertos was recorded in the City Hall of Glasgow, Scotland, providing a stunning acoustic for Rolf Smedvig's brilliant sound.
