This French group have brilliantly captured the same chaotic immediacy that rattled through The Libertines' 'Up The Bracket' and The Strokes' 'Is This It'.”

"Virtually unknown outside Europe, on their debut album 'The Trap', Hushpuppies have brilliantly captured the same chaotic immediacy that rattled through The Libertines' 'Up The Bracket' and The Strokes' 'Is This It'.”
- Rave Magazine
The story starts with the Likyds, a group from Perpignan, a nice and sunny town in the south of France - and also a Mecca for the sound of the '60s and the Mod culture in France. The six members of the group belong to a circle of garage music groups alongside the Feedbacks and the Beach Bitches, who have had a great impact on the French underground musical movement.
Over 5 years the Likyds toured heavily throughout France and are praised by the regional press and the increasing number of their fan, pushing a distinctive sound which was an enticing mixture of '60s garage and psychedelic soulful rock.
However, it was a move to Paris for the group which gave birth to the Hushpuppies - this perfect combination of unique French musicians quickly develops the most happening sound in Paris: a subtle combination of dirty rock, garage psych and pop likened to Franz Ferdinand and The Arctic Monkeys, with a dash of Supergrass.
Their fast paced and enigmatic live shows have grown in reputation and size throughout France and more recently, Europe and the UK, currently attracting thousands of fans. The sound of southern French rock is slowly brewing and setting the scene on fire!
They prove to be as comfortable with both their garage rock and electro-psychedelic inclinations, as well as with both their native tongue and English, as their debut LP 'The Trap' clearly illustrates. The album was recorded in Studio Blackbox [Deus, The Kills] during mid '05; released to critical acclaim in Europe in late '05, with the band featuring in Rolling Stone, Vogue, Rock and Folk, Liberation, Crash, MTV, Nova Radio Le Mouv FM, Europe2 TV and many more!
"Hushpuppies have a sound of their own, combining vocal harmonies, screaming lyrics &a thick French accent to produce a sound that has a dark urgency similar to The Hives' thrashy garage rock.”
