"All in all, it's a good CD, very well recorded and recommendable to all except those who hold particular interpretative preferences for the New World."
(Gramophone 2000)
Dvorak's ever-popular "New World" Symphony in a lustrous live performance by the world's élite orchestra.
Abbado's first recording of the Dvorak Symphony - one of his rare ventures into this repertoire on record.
The CD starts off with the rarely heard "Othello" Overture. It was premièred in 1892, as the third in a cycle of symphonic poems called Nature, Life and Love. Afterwards Dvorak separated the three works, giving them individual titles and opus numbers (the other two became In nature's Realm and Carnival).
Othello Overture, Op.93
Symphony No.9 in E minor, Op.95 "From the New World"
