Viktor Tretiakov is a prominent Russian violinist who won the Tchaikovsky International Competition at 20 in 1966. Somehow his fame in the Western world has not equalled that of some of his fellow countrymen playing the violin.
Tretiakov made quite a number of recordings. Most of these are hardly or not at all available. In our series Historical Russian Archives we now present a 10 CD set with greatly varying repertoire. Featuring the violinist both in solo concertos and as a chamber music player.
Of course Russian music is part of this package. The violin concertos by Shostakovich (1 and 2), Prokofiev, Tchaikovsky (Alexander and Peter Ilyich!) and Khatchaturian are included. As are a large number of other works for smaller ensembles by such different composers as J.S. Bach (double concerto, sonata), Vivaldi (concertos), Brahms (o.a. trios), Schubert (Duets), Gluck, Wagner, De Sarasate, Ravel and Paganini.
This set adds a considerable volume to the Tretiakov recordings presently on the market. Recordings made between 1967 and 1990.
