Silje's third album features 12 songs of genre bending jazz inflected pop. Vince Mendoza contributed some wonderful arrangements, while Brazilian artist Marcio Faraco guests on the duet "Who Goes There”.
Silje Nergaard is one of the most unique vocalists in today's international jazz arena and is also a seasoned composer.
Over the last three years Silje has toured Asia and Europe - headlining the "JazzSeries” in Germany; recorded a duet with Al Jarreau; and contributed a song on harmonica legend Thoots Thieleman's 'One More for the Road' album. Now Silje is ready for the release of her third studio album.
'Darkness out of Blue' features 12 songs of genre bending jazz inflected pop. Vince Mendoza (Joni Mitchell, Björk, Elvis Costello) contributed the wonderful arrangements on "Paperboats” and "Let Me Be Troubled”), while Brazilian artist Marcio Faraco guests on the duet "Who Goes There”.
"She avoids falling back on the straight-jazz singer's usual safe bets (scat-singing, blues infections, or much reference to standard songs), choosing instead to work over relaxed funk or minimalist slow-burn settings for ballads. She has a flexible and highly developed technique with instrument-like qualities in her dynamic and tonal range."
