Nuclear Free Nation

To celebrate and commemorate the 20th anniversary of New Zealand being nuclear free, the Peace Foundation's Disarmament and Security Centre, in collaboration with Kog Studios and Integrity Promotions presents a compilation of NZ music and visual arts.

This wonderfully packaged CD/DVD release, entitled 'Nuclear Free Nation', is a reminder to the people of NZ and to all that visit our country, why the passing of nuclear free legislation in '87 was such a significant event in our nations' history.

'Nuclear Free Nation' features some of our most respected artists, such as Trinity Roots, Don McGlashan, Shapeshifter, Kora, Anika Moa, Mamaku Project, Verse Two {Ladi 6}, Minuit, Baitercell, Katchafire, Dubwize, Jakob, Pitch Black, Chong-Nee, Benny Tones, Epsilon-Blue, Ben Throp, Huia, Fitchie and Dukie {Freddys} and Hollie Smith.

The idea of 'Nuclear Free Nation' is to utilise the force of music in raising public awareness of social and political issues!

This package showcases NZ music from different eras, and providing modern, multi-media educational material intended to broaden public engagement with the issues, and ensure that awareness of our nuclear free heritage and environmental ethos is passed on to younger generations. It is clear that there are now far more diverse nuclear dangers than there were 20 years ago, yet in '07 the nuclear disarmament issue has almost dropped completely off the public radar with young NZers losing touch with the significance of what it means to be "nuclear free", and the difficult journey that this country made to become nuclear free.

As well as a well-compiled CD featuring a slew of excellent Kiwi music and educational material, 'Nuclear Free Nation' also includes music videos from Minuit, Jakob, Kora, Pitch Black, Benny Tones and a selection from the LOOP DVDs.

'Nuclear Free Nation' will draw attention to the gifts that NZ offers us - and the world - just stop, take a look around and appreciate.
