American imported, digitally re-mastered re-issue disc. The songs in this collection from the late '90s move from the big and brash work of "Comfort Zone" to the sensitive and deft acoustics of "The Ring" and on to the funk rock of "No Joke".
According to Andy Powell; "This album was 3 years in the making. Songs only made it onto plastic if they satisfied the criteria of staying true to the band's original twin lead guitar blueprint, laid down in the 70s, and having the added power and poignancy of the 90s. We wanted this project to establish a very firm foundation for our journey towards the year 2000!"
Not since 'Argus', their chart topping album, has a Wishbone Ash release been so eagerly anticipated. With "power and melody" as the watchwords of the new songwriting team of Powell and Filgate, the only thing needed was a vocalist able to do justice to the range of material represented in 'Illuminations'. They found him in Tony Kishman. Kishman can be heard on 10 of the tracks on the new album, with Powell covering the remaining song.
The songs in this collection move from the big and brash work of "Comfort Zone" to the sensitive and deft acoustics of "The Ring" and on to the funk rock of "No Joke". Throughout the album both guitarists are given a chance to stretch out and show their stuff. In addition, the "Illuminations" theme is beautifully depicted in the cover artwork of Laurie Downing. She has captured the essence of the band's work; that quality that made some of their earlier sleeves award-winning classics.
