'Live at Fillmore East' captures the band inter-playing at the peak of their abilities, delivering stunning, lengthy pieces of southern blues / jazz / rock.
"This is one of the greatest live albums of all time. The band's first major hit album, 'Live At Fillmore East' was the breakthrough release that transformed The Allman Brothers Band from a regional cult into nationwide superstars, as well as igniting the fashion for double live albums. The Allmans would prove to be inspiration for many other bands that followed, including Lynyrd Skynyrd, Blackfoot, and Government Mule.
'Live at Fillmore East' captures the band inter-playing at the peak of their abilities, delivering stunning, lengthy pieces of southern blues / jazz / rock. Duane Allman is in particularly fine form on guitar, offering up some of the best slide work you are likely to hear. Brother, Gregg keeps it all together with soulful singing and dexterous keyboard work.
Sadly Duane Allman was killed in a motorcycle accident on 29th October 1971, just 3 months after the release of 'Live At The Fillmore East'. He was only 24 years old, as was bassist, Berry Oakey when he died in a remarkably similar crash the following year, only blocks from where Duane met his demise.
With brilliant songs such as "In Memory Of Elizabeth Reed" and "Whipping Post" (famously covered by Frank Zappa), along with definitive renditions of standards like "Stormy Monday", this live recording is a critically acclaimed, absolute classic. The Allman Brother's 'Live At Fillmore East' is highly original blues guitar rock / boogie at it's very best."
