Sharon Kam is judged by the specialist press to be an artist who "does not only play with virtuoso perfection but sounds fresher and also much cheekier in the process than any other clarinettist" (Fono Forum). Her new programme features an orchestral version of the Weber quintet, alongside the Double Concerto by Max Bruch with its unexpectedly harmonious combination of clarinet and viola, played here by two members of the Kam family.
The biggest surprise of all, however, is the almost unknown concerto by Mendelssohn contemporary Julius Rietz, a serendipitous Romantic gem.
Rietz: Concerto for clarinet and orchestra in G minor, op. 29
Bruch: Concerto for clarinet, viola and orchestra in E minor, op. 88
Weber: Quintet for clarinet and string quartet in B fl at major, op. 34 (Version with string orchestra)
