This is an outstanding blend of Rn'B, soul, funk & "Pac'Blues", topped with one of the most striking male voices in New Zealand.
Cydel comprises of David Letoa & Saipele Nili who have both been bred and brought up in the "Promisedland" called "Otara". They have been together since 1994 and, after much searching and moulding, have created their own original style of music which they call "Pac'Blues" (Pacific Blues).
Pele & Dee have been performing together since 1990, evolving from the Rn'B trio 3B Chill to NZ's first hardcore rap duo Overdose. They draw their inspiration for songs from personal experiences - both are heavily involved in working with South Auckland youth - and from what's happening around themselves and their community.
The mainstream's first taste of Cydel came in 2005 with their "Luv Iz" single, the most radio air-played single in NZ that year. Their live and studio band is known as The Groovehouse, a collective which consists of actors, singers, dancers, rappers and musicians. This collaborative was formed purely for one reason - to stay out of trouble. The session players include Henry Tauo, Luke Tu'uholoaki, Emmanuel Ensink, Eric Niu, Johnny Hunt, Tim & Tonga Vaea, Brian Ane, Francis Nansen, John Latoa & Christie Te'o, while all other vocals, drums, guitar and keyboards were played by Pele and Dee themselves. Trumpeter Tonga Vaea from Spacifix is a longtime believer of Cydel's music- - thanks to his older sibling's collection of NZ underground music in the 90s, while brothers Viiz and Nainz from Adeaze also appear on the album.
On 'Soul Finder', Cydel spread their wings and deliver a remarkable blend of music, played with grace and style, topped with one of the most striking male voices in New Zealand.
"A performance never to be forgotten by a musical group that has the talent, professionalism and artistry to be great."
