"Performances that are superb and reveal insights on a level rarely encountered"
(MusicWeb April 2008)

The Busch Quartet was almost beyond question the greatest chamber group of the first half of the 20th century. Founded by violinist Adolph Busch, brother of conductor Fritz Busch and co-founder of both the Lucerne and Marlboro festivals, the quartet flourished from its inception in 1919 until its leader's death in 1952. The Beethoven recordings, made at EMI's Abbey Road Studios between 1933 and 1937, have been accorded the most exalted status since they first appeared on 78 rpm discs.
