Chamber Works for Wind (Incls Quintet, Op. 43)

This re-issue gathers together all the great and several of the smaller works by Nielsen for wind instruments in chamber format. A number of pieces on the disc are not otherwise available. Nielsen's most important chamber works for wind were composed during the latter part of his career, when his interest had moved from strings to wind. 'The music is expertly performed with charm, sensitivity and imagination by the Athena Ensemble', said Classic FM Magazine. The Athena Ensemble established a lasting reputation for its performances of chamber music for wind and although the members no longer perform together in public they have left a legacy of fine recordings on Chandos.
