This is the second volume of Monteverdi's vocal chamber music compiled with wit and imagination by Robert Hollingworth. We can trace Monteverdi's evolution from the early Mantuan a cappella madrigals that made his reputation, right through to the late concerted madrigals of the 1630s, written for the Viennese court. The styles are worlds apart yet forged by the same desire to confront and master the tension between art and real life. I Fagiolini perform with style and commitment. The critics said of Vol. 1, 'I Fagiolini are most seductive and persuasive in Monteverdi… Frankly you won't hear madrigals better sung'.
