PTH have certainly made their mark on the hard rock; hardcore; heavy metal; mathcore and post-whatever scenes, in part thanks to the progressive sounds of 'Fortress' - a metal symphony with structural complexity.
Protest the Hero have certainly made their mark on the hard rock, hardcore; heavy metal; mathcore and post-whatever scenes. This is in part thanks to the progressive, metallic sounds of their recording, 'Fortress'...
Broken down into two thematic suites, 'Fortess' isn't so much an album as it is a symphony with many parts & movements that flow into one another. This allows it to work on two different level: firstly as a brilliant set of individual songs and secondly as a cohesive concept piece.
Protest the Hero strive to make their music an experience for all your senses, and 'Fortress' is an album that begs to be listened to on headphones, with the listener immersing themselves into the sounds, the lyrics, the concepts and the vibe.
"The songs are rhythmically complex, technically proficient, fiercely metallic and strikingly melodic, sounding a bit like a hybrid of Coheed and Cambria, Slayer and the Dillinger Escape Plan."
-MTV NEWS
"Protest the Hero can shred like nobody's business… what makes 'Fortress' much more than just a chain mail-clad sweep-picking clinic is the band's ability to weave bold melodies into the album's thundering riffage."
-ALTERNATIVE PRESS (4/5)
"Like Metallica and Iron Maiden before them, they're less interested in showing off than they are in squeezing their instrumental virtuosity and structural complexity into songs that move at the speed of pop. Sure, they're mad about guitar solos and double-bass blasts - but they're more energized by catchy melodies and fist-pumping choruses. Imagine Muse for metalheads."
