Enrique Granados (1867-1916) is one of the first so-called "national" composers of Spain. Together with his compatriot Isaac Albeniz, he created a new style of pianism in which elements of the Spanish folklore and folksong are embedded.
Granados's major piano work is the cycle "Goyescas", inspired by the romantic paintings of Goya. Equally attractive piano works are shown on this 6-CD containing his complete pianistic output, ranging from charming salon-like pieces, to highly original "poetic scenes".
Pianist Thomas Rajna, Hungarian born, renders these demanding works with the greatest virtuosity, but above all with a refined taste and impeccable sense of the Spanish musical language.
